We all love a matt lipstick which can stay on for long hours without fading into oblivion. However, liquid matt lipsticks are too drying and can get really patchy. And creamy lipsticks disappear from your lips as fast as Thanos snaps his fingers. Luckily Maybelline came up with a new formula called creamy matte lipsticks to save us all.
Maybelline launched a limited edition range of lipsticks with 6 shades which would go perfectly with Indian skin-tone and are pretty wearable especially in the festive season.

- Midtown Pink
- Madison Red

- Soho Nudes

Today I will only be reviewing the shade East Village Rose (05) from Maybelline the city heat bricks collection.
The lipstick comes in a sturdy colour-coded packaging which earns it some brownie points with lipstick junkies like me. The packaging is also travel-friendly and has a plastic wrapper with the list of all the ingredients and once you take it off you do not know what the ingredients in your lipstick are! This is one point which Maybelline must change, it is important to have the ingredients list on the packaging as well.
Now creamy mattes do transfer a little and can smudge as well, however they do leave a tint on your lips. I did a quick smudge test by swatching the lipstick on my wrist, letting it sit for a minute and then smudging it.
As you can see, the lipstick smudged off completely but it left a slight tint, which I think is a plus point for those who hate liquid lipsticks.
The Natural vs Artificial Light Test:
Sometimes your lipstick might look great in daylight but completely weird in artificial lighting and vice versa. I took pictures of how the East Village Rose 05 shade looks in daylight and in artificial lighting.
The first picture is East Village Rose (05) in day-light and the second one is in artificial light. As you can see the lipstick appears more Pinkish in daylight and slightly brown in artificial lighting.
This is how the lipstick looked when I applied it first.
After 6 hours it completely faded and my lips did become a little dry.
The lipstick is just slightly visible in the corners of my lips, therefore if you can touch your lipstick up from time to time it would be better.

When I first saw the shade range I was really happy and I thought that the lipsticks were really vibrant. I am slightly disappointed with East Village Rose and I think I should have gone for Noho Amber instead, as it is much darker. East Village Rose might be the perfect shade for fair skin tones and even medium skin-tone if you are looking for an everyday nude shade. I was expecting a brighter pink but the lip shade turned out very dull. (Not very festive you see!)
Another thing I would like to point out is it looks really vibrant when you look at the tube but it isn’t when you swatch it on your lips. The colour is not buildable, it looks the same no matter how many times you apply it on your lips.
Coming to the pros of this lipstick, the formula is actually creamy you just need one swipe for the colour to show up and the lipstick stays on for a good 4-5 hours if you are not planning to have a meal!
It is great for college going students or working women who just want something to wear on a daily basis.
It may appear very vibrant on fair-skin tones.
The packaging is very attractive and sturdy! So you can just keep it in your bag without worrying.
